Let's Put the Future Behind Us
New York City
“New York’s such a wonderful city. Although I was at the library today. The guys are very rude. I said, ‘I’d like a card.’ He says, ‘You have to prove you’re a citizen of New York.’ So I stabbed him.” — Emo Philips
A vast, labyrinthine mess of opulent high-rise and abject squalor, New York City is the most densely population jurisdiction within the Boston-Atlanta Metropolitan Axis. 70 million people live, breed and die within the Fullerine domes that encase the city, and it is perennially rumoured to be on the edge of irreversible social collapse.
However, despite all evidence to the contrary, New York City continues to function, even despite a failing infrastructure, rampant political croneyism and organised crime at a record high. Perhaps because of these failings, New York City remains the largest entrepôt for illegal biological and cybernetic technologies outside of Chiba City. This is in no small part due to the influence of techno- and bio-fetishist gangs (primarily the Panther Moderne and CDS, respectively), many of which having backers in both the industrial and political spheres.
